Canmore Community Gardening Society
Growing Food! Building Community! Gardening Together!
Every May long weekend is anticipated for gardeners, with temperatures no longer dipping below zero, trees and grass all turning green from the spring hydration; a sign of life and growth. Which means its time to start planting! (Of course, if your not cold crop growing, because you have already started gardening )
We would like to use this blog as a way to get to know some of our local gardeners here in Canmore, share some gardening tips and what we are growing/harvesting. If you are interested and have a tip you would like to share please email me @ liannemariebecic@gmail.com. We would love to hear from everyone, as there is a lot of beginner gardeners including myself that appreciate all the gardening wisdom that you have to share. I have had a lot of failed crops due to overplanting, overwatering, underwatering, early and/or late planting, but with the guidance of some of the local gardeners, I have had much success with my plants. Additionally, I was able to keep that knowledge to expand my growing abilities each year. Thank you to those that have shared their gardening advice.
Gardening tip: if you haven’t already added compost to your soil, add 4-5 inches and till in, this will help the soil retain nutrients, water, and structure. Every year we need to re-establish healthy soil, so in return, we will reap the benefits of a nutrient-dense production.
Happy Growing!
